Blackberry crumble is a dish that's close to my heart. I remember picking blackberries and making this dish with my mother as a child. The preparation is very simple and great for children to learn and memories associated with it are as warm and comforting as the dish itself.
The blackberries in this recipe are not picked from a bush in the English countryside, these came from Kensington fruit market. I have also added apples because they are a great cozy ingredient for winter baking but also for cost effectiveness.
There are probably some other things I do slightly differently than she does but the sentiment remains the same. I now make this dessert for my family's Imbolc feast day.
To another mixing bowl add all the crumble topping ingredients, using your fingers rub the cubed butter into the other ingredients repeating until it has a granola like consistency.

Sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit filling, first add about ⅔ of the crumble topping, press it down lightly, then sprinkle the remaining ⅓.

Let the crumble stand for 5 minutes, serve warm topped with maple whipped cream.
